Wat Phra Chetuphon
In 1782, King Rama I moved the capital from Thonburi across the river to Bangkok and built the Grand Palace adjacent to Wat Pho. In 1788, he ordered the construction and renovation at the old temple site of Wat Pho, which had by then become dilapidated. The site, which was marshy and uneven, was drained and filled in before construction began. During its construction Rama I also initiated a project to remove Buddha images from abandoned temples in Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, as well other sites in Thailand, and many of these Buddha images were kept at Wat Pho.These include the remnants of an enormous Buddha image from Ayuthaya's Wat Phra Si Sanphet destroyed by the Burmese in 1767, and these were incorporated into a chedi in the complex. The rebuilding took over seven years to complete. In 1801, twelve years after work began, the new temple complex was renamed Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklavas.

Temple Of Dawn (Wat Arun)
Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan is a Buddhist temple (wat) in Bangkok Yai district of Bangkok, Thailand, on the Thonburi west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The temple derives its name from the Hindu god Aruna, often personified as the radiations of the rising sun. Wat Arun is among the best known of Thailand's landmark. The first light of the morning reflects off the surface of the temple with pearly iridescence.Although the temple had existed since at least the seventeenth century, its distinctive prang (spires) were built in the early nineteenth century during the reign of King Rama II.

Definitely needed a guide to fully appreciate Grand Palace and temples

Spent a wonderful morning with Mhom visiting the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun. We tried to navigate a temple by ourselves a few days ago but found it confusing and realised we needed an experienced guide. We are so glad we did this tour! We received very detailed information beforehand about appropriate dress, meeting place and how to travel by public transport to the meeting point. We enjoyed the ferry trip to our meeting point! Mhom was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. It was extremely hot but she plied us with water, found shady spots to chat to us about what we were seeing. No question was too difficult for her - including questions we had about other sights we had visited or things we’d noticed but didn’t understand since arriving in Bangkok. We were also grateful to her for negotiating a low price for our return Tuk tuk trip at the end of the tour. Very highly recommended !

This was a really well planned trip with our guide. It was a super hot day and the guide tried to find shady spots to give us detailed info as we proceeded through the tour. All in our group enjoyed themselves, while taking lots of photos - even with our guide helping to take photos of us. Glad that I did this tour with a guide - there's lots of info that I had no idea about. Definitely highly recommended
