The temple was constructed in 1630 by the king, Prasat Thong, as the first temple of his reign, as a memorial of his mother's residence in that area. The temple's name literally means the Temple of long reign and glorious era. It was designed in Khmer style to gain Buddhist merit and as a memorial to his mother, however Prince Damrong believed it was built to celebrate Ayutthaya Kingdom's victory over Longvek.

It has a central 35-meter-high (115 ft) prang with four smaller prangs. The whole construction stands on a rectangular platform. About halfway up there are hidden entrances, to which steep stairs lead.

The central platform is surrounded by eight chedi-shaped chapels , which are connected by a rectangular cross-shaped passage (Phra Rabieng).

Great tour!

Een geweldige tourorganisatie voor uw reizen door de omgeving van Bangkok. Heb gekozen voor hun ayutyha tour. Een geweldige rondreis met bus en boot. Een aanrader.
Excellent, informative day out!

There seems to be so many tour companies marketing an identical agenda (with varying price tags), that it was hard to find the appropriate place to write a review! We booked through Big Country Vacations and our guide was Donna, who did an excellent job of imparting her great knowledge of her country's history and culture, with good humour and warmth!
We were picked up promptly and the time spent either on the shuttle round Bangkok, or on the large bus needs to be regarded as part of the overall experience, as you are getting to see the city and country! Although it would've been nice to spend more time in those magnificent temple ruins - which is why most people book the tour - the palace grounds are huge and need the hour to see, whereas the shorter time at the ruins was enough to wander about, clicking madly for the memories to mull over later!
White Orchid cruises provided a lunch that was beyond our expectations- really, really nice food! I'll dream of that spicy prawn soup for years to come!! It was magic to watch the temples drift by, and the landscape change, until docking in the busy heart of the city.
We totally enjoyed our day and consider it excellent value! Thank you!
