What a moving experience. I would highly recommend this trip.

We would like to thank Jill and Gerald for being excellent tour guides and for looking after us. There knowledge was second to none. We were treated like royalty....

Many thanks x

River Kwai Trip

I reserved a solo trip to Kanchanaburi to see Hellfire Pass, make a rail trip, see the bridge over the River Kwai and the war cemetery. My guide was Phongsin of Amazing Tours and he and his driver did indeed do an amazing job. The trip was very worthwhile - moving and interesting. I have heard about the history of the Burma Railway all my life but until you see the interpretive centre and the personal testimonies and walk on the ground they walked you really don't understand it. Thank you to an excellent team for taking me there.
If you don’t think you have the time…. Amazing Asia will make time for you!

The trip started badly, there was a mix up with the pick-up point (probably my fault) but Amazing Asia were understanding and just rearranged their plans, excellent.
Having visited the cemetery we headed to THE Bridge. We had a nice amount of time to meander across the bridge and take photos prior to the train arriving.
Taking the train to the end of the line was nice, not only was it relaxing but seeing the countryside and being able to put your head out the window to feel & smell it was awesome, especially considering the health and safety obsessed world we live in!
Lunch time at the end of the line was outstanding, chicken with cashew nut and steamed rice is highly recommended.
Hellfire Pass was next. Another really poignant place, wonderfully restored and cared for by predominantly, Australian Charities.
Irrespective of our drivers best efforts (we made really good progress where possible) we fell foul of Bangkok traffic on the way ‘home’. Eventually, my selfish western ways set in, seeing me leave him to negotiate his way through the Bangkok madness, as I walked back to my hotel. The traffic was so bad, he could still be there!!!
In summary, the trip was excellent. Any negatives were out of Amazing Asia’s control.
If you have the time (I didn’t) make this a two day trip, you spend a lot of time travelling, that said, time in the car that I had was a pleasure. Leather seats, panoramic roof and effective air-con.
Must-do inspiring and emotional tour

What an amazing day! So much to learn and quite emotional. Our guide Rudy was friendly, knowledgeable and respectful of the sad subject matter of the tour. It's a long day, but well worth the effort and something every Australian should think about doing. The museum at Hellfire Pass is well set up and the walk to the pass itself is a must-do for anyone with even a passing interest in Australian war history and the sacrifices made by so many (the walk itself is excellent and very well maintained but involves several flights of stairs, so would not recommend it for anyone with mobility issues, but is easy if you have moderate fitness and can manage some stairs)
Great day...!
