Best ever unexpected thing to do in Bangkok!

When my husband told me that he had booked us on a cycle tour in Bangkok, I was super sceptical but after the tour, we couldn't stop talking about what a great time we had.

We were in a group of seven, with our tour guide Nick. The group size was just nice, we were all dropped off about 5 mins walk from the pier where we took the river taxi across to the Bang Kachao island. Once we got off the river taxi, we were given instructions to pick up our helmets and fitted for our mountain bikes.

We were given Trek Marlin bikes and once we had chosen the bikes for height, our guide got the tires pumped up before we started on the tour. The gears on the bike seemed a bit looser than I'm used to but it was easy to adjust and manage.

The tour went through a forest reserve and then through the village on the artificial island. The tour basically takes you on the paths and streets that the villagers take on a daily basis, and you cycle past their front/back doors. The paths are mostly concrete and there are some pretty narrow and sharp 90-degree corners, but they're mostly safe (even for a not very confident cyclist like myself). There are some muddy bits since we were there during the rainy season, but nothing too messy.

The tour includes a stop for mango sticky rice and lunch. The lunch stop also includes 30 to 40 minutes to walk around the weekend market or get a foot massage. The toilets at the restaurant are clean and well-maintained, food is good and simple Thai food.

All said and done, it was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend this to anyone who can cycle. Nick, our guide, was entertaining and experienced, he had an eye out for everyone throughout the entire tour. If you're still thinking about whether to book this tour, just book it! It's a no regrets move!

Kan was a great guide for the day. He had good communication and kept everyone safe.

This bike tour is not for the faint hearted! The bike ride takes you on elevated pathways over the mangrove with no side railing. Make sure you are a decent with bike handling and reasonably fit!

A great thing to do in Bangkok! 5/5!
